Living in Central Texas, there are many allergies in San Antonio that people are prone to- from tree pollen and weeds to molds and animal fur. Some common South Texas Allergens include:
Cedar (Juniper) Pollen
If you think you may be suffering from allergies, the following list includes a few early signs that may be caused by allergies:
Your Chin or Throat Itches
Dark Circles Under the Eyes
Poor Tolerance for Exercise
What Exactly is an ‘Allergy’?
The body’s response to an allergen is the release of ‘histamine’, which causes swelling and irritation to the area where allergens are present due to the high release of histamine that is trying to combat the allergen. These allergens considered the ‘culprit’ range from leaky gut syndrome to inherited immune responses.
Allergies and their symptoms vary from individual to individual, based on what allergens that person’s body is least tolerable to. For example, different seasons of the year can affect allergy victims more than others. If you think your South Texas Allergies may be seasonal, the symptoms range from upper respiratory problems- including tearing, burning, swollen eyes and sinus congestion- to bronchial spasms with asthmatic episodes.
Not only can one’s upper respiratory tract be prone to allergy issues, but certain allergens can also take a toll on our skin. Some skin reactions include itching, swelling, and hives. Allergens can even cause GI (gastrointestinal) issues including upper GI upset and sometimes diarrhea.
How Do Our Bodies Choose What We Are Allergic To?
A lot of allergies are thought to occur during infancy when the body is invaded by foreign materials, particularly via immunizations. The administration of immunizations to children before they weigh 25 lbs has been thought to be a cause in many allergies due to the fact that their bodies are unable to handle the invasion of their immune system.
The DPT vaccine (diphtheria, pertussis–whooping cough, and tetanus) has been known for being responsible for causing otitis media and upper respiratory infections shortly after administration, within days or hours. Also, runny noses, high temperatures, seizures, irritability, and pneumonia are not uncommon. Once these symptoms settle in, a cycle of endless trips and visits to the pediatrician ensue for antibiotic therapy. This then leads to an allergist referral, scratch testing, antihistamines, allergy shots, dietary restrictions, and so forth.
Turn over the can or carton of the foods in your refrigerator or pantry. Our dairy products and commercial foods contain antibiotics, along with preservatives and unnatural processing, which may also be contributing to our allergies. Even the fruits and vegetables are grown using herbicides, pesticides, and chemical pollutants, leaving our bodies as an experiment to see how it reacts to today’s ‘modern’ food.
How Do We Treat Allergies at Moore Life Health Solutions?
Our bodies are amazing and have an inherent ability to heal and repair when given the right opportunity. As chiropractors, we try to emphasize this natural healing process to our patients. One natural way of correcting the body is through vertebral subluxation correction. As aforementioned, your chiropractor can discuss with you how to reduce and eliminate the amount of dairy products and gluten ingested; different ways of detoxifying the liver and colon; using digestive enzymes to improve digestive function; and, most importantly, drinking plenty of water (reverse osmosis or microwater). The approximate amount of water you should be drinking per day is equal to your body weight/2. This number is the estimated amount of ounces in water that you should be drinking throughout the day.
